Alina Abegg

Alina, a Berlin-based designer who has a German, Swiss, and Canadian heritage, studied at the Instituto Marangoni in London, before taking degrees in gemology and jewellery design at the Gemological Institute of America. She debuted her Alina Abegg Jewels line in 2016. Alongside her fine jewellery, Alina creates pieces in sterling silver, with her designs all hand-made and produced in Germany. Rita Ora and Diane Kruger are both fans of the designer’s work, with Alina telling British Vogue that she sees herself as creating jewellery for an “independent, sensual, and free-spirited” woman.

Alina Abegg likes to look beyond the confines of Earth for inspiration for her jewellery designs, taking her cues from the wider solar system and alien life forms to create her playful and glamorous pieces. Her Cosmic Escape collection spotlights rings fashioned in the shape of alien faces – which the designer says stem from her “90’s obsession with aliens,” crafted using gold, white agate, tourmalines, and diamonds, while other ring designs take inspiration from the forms of crop circles or UFOs. And Saturn is the touchstone for some of the earrings in Alina’s collection, with drop earrings crafted from Tahitian and South Sea pearls to resemble the planet, their rings studded with sapphires or diamonds.

She adds that she believes that the attention that her Cosmic Escape collection has captured reflects “people’s ongoing fascination with the beauty of outer space.” “The idea of being able to visit and eventually inhabit other planets doesn’t seem as far away as it used to,” muses the designer.
