Internationally recognized for exploring new ways and proprietary techniques to challenge the relationship between metalwork and precious stones, Nak Armstrong has been a leading voice in fine jewelry for two decades.
Before becoming a fine jewellery designer, Nak Armstrong would paint beautiful bold patterns on silk with the precision of a highly skilled draftsman, which he would then cut into sumptuous scarves. The urge to do something new and more artistically challenging, led to jewellery design and the launch of Anthony Nak which became a cult hit with countless celebrities and was bestowed with numerous honors including the CFDA for emerging talent in accessory design.
In early 2011, he launched his eponymous collection NAK ARMSTRONG, wherein his architecture and fashion sense are apparent in the clever way he engineers his pieces to look like the pleating and ruffling of fabric. His pieces often contain tremendous dimension and volume akin to clothing and his unique mix of color is a study in tonal changes and shades. The overall results are gems and stones suspended harmoniously in a three-dimensional mosaic. His pieces are “very stone intensive, yet deceivingly lightweight.”
The curious jeweller often looks to fauna and flora, intricate mosaics and colour-drenched stained glass for creative inspiration. “I set out to create an iconic fine jewelry brand that is instantly recognizable. Each piece must be original in the way it’s constructed and in it’s use of materials – I like to design from a very instinctive place.”
