Q&A with George Root, designer behind the brand Milamore

2020-01-24

Having recently joined the Auverture designer family, George Root answers a few questions and talks about the inspiration and techniques behind his brand Milamore.

What is the story/inspiration behind Milamore?

Milamore is a culmination of my experiences from a young boy in Japan to my adult life in New York and the pit-stops in between. All of the places I've been fortunate to travel to and cultural references I've connected with along the way. These take form not only through the design, but the philosophies behind each collection Milamore presents.

Can you tell us more about the Kintsugi technique and why you chose to use it in some of your pieces?

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese restoration method. Artisans would take shattered ceramics and repair it with gold enamel and the end result would be something completely different, but unique and some would say even more beautiful than the original. I felt as though this same philosophy could be applied to every human being. We've all been through situations that have altered us and it's nothing to be ashamed of. When you wear the pieces from the Kintsugi Collection, you not only aesthetically take on the look of the broken pottery, but the philosophy can be applied as well.
