Yannis Sergakis ’s designs are characterized by both their strength and delicacy, as the Greek jeweller fashions strong shapes in finely crafted gold, laced with diamonds.
Indeed, diamonds are central to his work, which is no surprise given that Yannis hails from a family of diamond traders, and has been familiar with those precious stones since childhood. After studying at the Gemological Institute of America, the jeweller went on to work in his family business until 2004, when he set up his own jewellery design firm, collaborating with numerous jewellery houses.
But it wasn’t until 2015 that Yannis debuted his own signature line, dubbed Yannis Sergakis Adornments. The designer notes that he draws influence from “architecture, fabrics, people, senses, silhouettes, and feelings,” for his designs, which have a striking yet minimal appeal. Made by craftsmen in Greece, Yannis says that his work takes a “fresh” approach, while still drawing on the traditions of Greek jewellery making. The designer also has his own store in Athens, a sleek space designed by architect Aris Zampikos.
